Third Annual Kids 4th of July Parade Marks Public Announcement of the Heather Bone Foundation

July 2, 2022

When COVID originally hit, out went the town parade where we live in 2020, one of the most significant events of the year. Heather and the neighborhood Moms came up with the idea of having a kids parade so that the kids could have fun and celebrate the 4th—it was very small and simple; we had about 30 kids decorating bikes, walking the loop in the neighborhood and the neighbors tossed candy their way as we passed with a bluetooth speaker blasting Grand Old Flag.

Last year, after Heather’s passing, we continued the tradition in her honor and got a bigger crowd organically, probably about 150 people and had a police car, ice cream truck and a hayride. For 2022, we decided to go a bit bigger and hired a steel drum band, grilled cheese food truck, and a friend brought goats, chickens and bunnies for a petting zoo - we had close to 500 people this year.

We also marked the occasion by announcing forming the Heather Bone Foundation, what our mission is, and how we plan to raise money to contribute to worthy charities focused on improving children’s’ lives. The team is excited to be operational and we will continue to update our donors on the results! We were able to raise $3,500 from the initial event, which we will use as a springboard to iterate on how to effectively run fundraising events in future. Our first grant recipient with be Empower, a charity that helps young children who have lost a parent. We are very excited to be part of their cause and fuel the ability for Empower to bring solace and healing to families who have experienced loss.

Thanks to all who attended and donated to the cause!
